Where we’re situated

We have two fantastic sites in the Salterhebble and Skircoat Green areas of Halifax at Haigh Lane and Godfrey Road.

On this page you’ll find links to directions and also how to apply to become a plotholder.

Apply for an allotment

We would like to hear from you if you’re interested in having an allotment of your own.

Whether you’re new to growing or more experienced, there is much to learn, and an allotment is a great way to get your hands dirty and fingers green.

There is a waiting list in place but there is plenty of space on it for you. All our plots are taken for this year (2024), but if anything changes, we review the waiting list appropriate to the time of year and annually for the start of the new rental year on 1 January.

Applications forms can be picked up at the Godfrey Road site on Saturdays between 10am – 12pm, or on this page.

Things to know

Plots are available in full, half, and quarter sizes, and the rental period is from January to December each year.

Not all plots are equal. If we can offer a plot, it may need some care (graft) to get to a state you are happy with. We do as much as possible to help and prepare a site if it’s in particular need.

Having an allotment year-round is a commitment, and time is the biggest consideration. On average, a ready-to-go plot will require a bare minimum of half a day a week to tend to. Spring, summer, and autumn are all productive times on the allotment, and crops will need protection, weeding, and watering daily when the weather hots up.

We have some site rules that must be followed to maintain the integrity of our site in line with local allotment standards; you can view these on this page.
